Since more and more people are moving into the neighbourhood, the city of Montreal has decided to repurpose a long-time abandoned building in the sector. The city wishes to establish a new cultural hotspot in the historically industrial neighbourhood.<\/h3>\n

The $4,6M project will allow the former Wellington Control Tower to be transformed into a \u201cculture incubator\u201d. This in reflected by the instauration of an art gallery and a restaurant, which will be run by the famous Chef, Stefano Faita. \u00abThe transformation of the Wellington Control Tower into a cultural space will give momentum to the exceptionally precious heritage of the industrial and railroad era. This cultural incubator will contribute in boosting the area\u2019s cultural offers and in supporting Montreal\u2019s desire to be recognized as a city of design, through the quality and the uniqueness of this project.\u00bb said the Mayor of Montreal.<\/p>\n

The Wellington Control Tower is an urban beacon that was relieved of it\u2019s functions in the sixties. \u00abWith the growth of population in Griffintown, the building\u2019s unique features and its location in between major development projects, our administration was concerned with the improvement of the cultural offer of the district and we wanted to help the Wellington tower shine \u00bb, added Mr. Coderre.<\/p>\n

This addition to the neighbourhood contributes to the new cultural calling of Griffintown. A place that combines artistic, urban, and food culture, and is just a first step towards the future.<\/p>\n
